Not only do you become what you think about, but the world also becomes what you think about. Those who think that the world is a dark place are blind to the light that might illuminate their lives. Those who see the light of the world view the dark spots as merely potential light.
Where is your place in the spiritual revolution? Fundamental changes are taking place in the collective bosom of mankind. If you believe those changes are negative and destructive, that will be your place. You will think it, convince yourself of it, and create the intentions to verify it for yourself repeatedly. On the other hand, you can choose to know that for every act of unkindness, there are a million kind acts, that there is a network of good guys out there who are truly making a difference, and that the spiritual changes, while slow, are still present and observable. That then will be your place in the spiritual revolution.
The changes are taking place first in the collective minds of men, and then in the outer world as well. You are here, on purpose, to help make those changes manifest more profoundly and permanently into the consciousness of all mankind. Trusting yourself means that you are trusting the wisdom that designed and created you in the first place, and knowing that you are on purpose, you know that the universe is also on purpose. You are trusting in the divine intelligence that flows through you.
I personally attempt to remove myself from the bad news that is thrust at me in a thousand different ways. I want to be a part of the solution, not part of the problem. Obviously, I am aware that there are still wars being waged, crimes being committed and poverty and suffering in the world. My thoughts are not on judging those problems or being mad at them, or wishing they would go away. My thoughts, which will expand into action, are on doing something about those problems by convincing those in powerful positions to direct their resources toward fixing things; by writing about and teaching these principles to those who need them the most; by sending books and tapes to needy institutions and the like. When I am focused on what I am for, rather than what I am against, I am empowered. This is true in my individual life, and it is true in my larger role here on this planet.
Your place in this revolution will solidify if you fill yourself with love. You cannot be sustained by tension, anxiousness, fear and doubt. These are inhibitors rather than empowering emotions. To become a part of the spiritual revolution, you must be able to radiate outward all that you are gaining in your spiritual consciousness. You have the power to do just that if you make that choice.
RADIATING YOUR NEW CONSCIOUSNESS OUTWARD
What do you have to give away? Keeping in mind that your purpose is always about giving, loving and serving in some capacity, regardless of what vocation you have chosen, this question of what you will be able to give away as your purposeful mission is paramount. It does not take any extra special intelligence to know this simple truth: You cannot give away what you don’t have. If you don’t have any money, obviously you can’t give money away. The same principle applies to your contribution to the spiritual revolution.
If you don’t have love, harmony and peace within you, then you simply cannot contribute these qualities. Consequently, you will be among those who are watching this revolution take place either wondering why they are not part of it or being part of the resistance. If you have anxiety, stress, fear, anger and tension within, that is all that you will be able to give away. That is what you will be radiating outward, and obviously that is what you will be seeing all around you. The choice, as always, is yours, based upon how you choose to process your world.
The components of anxiety, stress, fear and anger do not exist independently of you in the world. You cannot go out with a bucket and bring home some of these things. They simply do not exist in the physical world, even though we talk about them as if they did. But there are people acting stressfully, anxiously, angrily and fearfully in the world. Those actions stem exclusively from a way of thinking. Thus, if you have those elements within you, it is because that is how you have chosen to process the events and circumstances of your physical universe.
Those who choose to take up weapons against others are operating from fearful thoughts. The presence of those thoughts is justified by an inner processing system that verifies this behavior. These people believe that the world is a suspicious, dangerous place, on both a personal level and a collective level.
If you are a person who would like to discontinue this kind of behavior, then you will be required to change those inner voices. As Albert Einstein put it: “The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” Thus, all of the major problems that we humans face were created by our way of thinking. And a man who is considered one of the brightest intellectual lights of our century reminds us that a new way of thinking will be required to change them.
We cannot go on thinking in divisive ways if we want to bring about unity on our planet. We cannot go on thinking in militant ways if we want to bring peace to our world. We cannot go on thinking in hateful ways if we want to bring love to our world.
Each thought that develops into a helping, purposeful, loving act is your contribution. It matters not what others say or do—they have their own destinies to fulfill. When someone sends you criticism or hate, you can respond only with what you have inside. If harmony and peace reside because that is how you have chosen to think, then that is what you will have to give away. In that moment you have made a difference. You have manifested a miracle into the world and radiated outward the real magic I have been describing.
As you do this on your own personal and local level, you will find yourself expanding and reaching more and more people. That is precisely what has been happening with all of the spiritual revolution changes you see around you. The green movement started in the minds of individuals, and is now a worldwide phenomenon. Giving the Nobel Peace Prize to the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, a man whose very life reflects a spiritual consciousness and reverence for all living things, started in the mind of one person and ultimately became a reality. The end of apartheid, just like its beginning, was first an idea. The ideas in your mind are just as powerful.
The words of Michael Jackson, “We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who make a better world so let’s start giving,” reflect a truly spiritual message. And those words have helped eliminate a large portion of hunger and starvation on our planet.
You truly are the world, and your thoughts do make all the difference in this world. Have reverence for your mind. Treat your invisible inner reality with sacred blissful appreciation, and know that you are capable of bringing about real magic in our world, and that every thought you have of love and harmony is one more atom aligning itself toward the phase transition that is inevitably occurring even now as you read these words.
HOW YOU CAN CREATE A MIRACLE IN OUR WORLD
In all that I have written in these pages about creating real magic, nothing is more important than your coming into contact with the higher part of yourself. At first, you will very likely reject this notion of yourself as a miracle worker in the worldwide realm of real magic. Yet as William James once wrote, “A new idea is first condemned as ridiculous and then dismissed as trivial, until finally, it becomes what everybody knows.” Many will consider the idea of performing miracles as ridiculous or impossible, and will continue leading lives that reflect their beliefs.
Increasingly, however, people are believing in their own divinity and trusting in the divine wisdom that created them. They are helping to create the spiritual revolution that is now occurring. More and more people are using their invisible thoughts to visualize a better, safer, cleaner, more responsible, more loving world. They are making an impact in the political, ecological and spiritual realms of our planet. They know the wisdom to be found in the following words of Chief Seattle, who in the 1800s wrote a letter in response to the government’s offer to purchase tribal land. Read Chief Seattle’s letter and consider how we have
treated the environment we inherited from our forefathers. His words are probably more relevant today than ever.
The President in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky? The land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them?
Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people.
We know the sap which courses through the trees as we know the blood that courses through our veins. We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters. The bear, the deer, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the juices in the meadow, the body heat of the pony, and man, all belong to the same family.
The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each ghostly reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water’s murmur is the voice of my father’s father.
The rivers are our brothers. They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give to the rivers the kindness you would give any brother.
If we sell you our land, remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also receives his last sigh. The wind also gives our children the spirit of life. So if we sell you our land, you must keep it apart and sacred, as a place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow flowers.
Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth.
This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
One thing we know: our god is also your god. The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap
Your destiny is a mystery to us. What will happen when the buffalo are all slaughtered? The wild horses tamed? What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted by talking wires? Where will the thicket be? Gone! Where will the eagle be? Gone! And what is it to say goodbye to the swift pony and the hunt? The end of living and the beginning of
When the last Red Man has vanished with his wilderness and his memory is only the shadow of a cloud moving across the prairie, will these shores and forests still be here? Will there be any of the spirit of my people left?
We love this earth as a newborn loves its mother’s heartbeat. So, if we sell you our land, love it as we have loved it. Care for it as we have cared for it. Hold in your mind the memory of the land as it is when you receive it. Preserve the land for all children, and love it, as God loves us all.
As we are part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you. One thing we know: there is only one God. No man, be he Red Man or White Man, can be apart. We are brothers after all.
This consciousness Chief Seattle so lovingly describes is available to you to share and expand with your thoughts. You, one person with a vision, are like a pebble in a stream, moving ever outward to infinity, impacting on all who come into contact with that ripple, which creates the spiritual world I believe in so strongly.
You make all the difference in the world. Your presence here is a divine necessity. Perfect and purposeful. Your inner silent invisible mind is the director of your world and the world you find yourself immersed in. This is your miracle making in action. These words of St. John of the Cross, found in The Perennial Philosophy, by Aldous Huxley, should give you confidence in your ability to produce real magic.
God does not reserve such a lofty vocation (that of mystical contemplation) to certain souls only; on the contrary, He is willing that all should embrace it. But He finds few who permit Him to work such sublime things for them. There are many who, when He sends them trials, shrink from the labour and refuse to bear with the dryness and mortification, instead of submitting, as they must, with perfect patience.
You will see a miracle-laden world when you embrace, rather than shrink from, responsibility for creating it. All that you know of the world is in your mind, and you create the thoughts that occupy that inner space. There are many things that you can do on a daily basis to bring about the Eden that is your birthright. But whatever it is that you find yourself doing in the physical world, you must know that it is all driven by that divine invisible soul that has temporarily settled itself in your body.
By aligning yourself with your spiritual side first, before your nonspiritual side, you will radiate out that peace that is within. You will see those who are still on the side of war and destruction as tests to determine your own resolve to not join that way of thinking. You will not be dissuaded from your mission just because others are not with you. You will stay focused on what you are for in all areas of your life.
The bad news, the gossip, the emphasis in the media on tragedy and pessimism will not capture your attention. You will note these as areas for improvement, but your inner divine self will be noting also how many acts of healing, kindness and friendliness outnumber those of suffering.
You create a world of real magic when you alone decide to use your divine, miraculous inner intelligence to make it happen. It is within you and within all of us to be wise. If you see the world in this magical way, then you have created it. It is not illusional thinking, it is real for you, inside, in the only place that you can live. Here is Jehovah, speaking through the mouth of his prophet: “If I am here, everyone is here. If I am not here, no one is here.” And so it is with you. You are the be-all and end-all of real magic in this world.
As I approach the last paragraph of this book it thrills me that I have been able to create this work on real magic from within my mind. I have been guided to write it throughout every stage of its development. It has been a magical journey for me. I live to radiate this miraculousness I feel within me, and I know that this inner voice is capable of creating real authentic magic in many forms. But even more than knowing the magic that I have created in my own personal life, with my glorious family, I shiver inside with the awareness that it can make a difference in your life and in the entire physical world we are all immersed in. My closing quote on this subject comes from the ancient writer Philo:
Households, cities, countries and nations have enjoyed great happiness, when a single individual has taken heed of the Good and Beautiful…. Such men do not only liberate themselves; they fill those they meet with a free mind.
You are that single individual, becoming a spiritual being and taking heed of the good and the beautiful. You will indeed fill yourself and those around you with a new freedom in your minds, the freedom to create real magic.
